Ankarsrum Assistent Original History

Since the dawn of time all around the world, mankind had an…

..an urge to produce a kitchen machine, a proper food mixer.

Welcome to Ankarsrum Assistent Original.

But it all started a long time ago. In fact, in 1655. Ankarsrum is one of the oldest companies in Sweden still operating today. During the early 20th century Ankarsrum was the leading manufacturer of wood and gas stoves and subsequently of electric ovens and stoves once electricity was introduced into Swedish homes.

In the 1940s, the Assistent was launched by Swedish white goods manufacturer Electrolux. The Second World War meant that Swedish families were forced to review their expenses. They were baking, cooking, making jams and syrups and preserving food much more than they had done previously. And all this required a robust and reliable kitchen assistant.

A striking sign of the spirit of those times was a collection of ‘crisis’ recipes that accompanied each machine during the first few years. Sales went well and over time this kitchen assistant became a common sight in Swedish kitchens and during those years we went from wood to plastics.

In 1969, production moved from Motala to Ankarsrum, where the machine is assembled and packed, ready for shipping all over the world.

The aluminium components, such as the mincer and housing, are die cast by the daughter company Ankarsrum Die Casting and the motor is produced by Ankarsrum Motors, all in the premises of Ankarsrum Industries.

Since its initial launch, the Ankarsrum Original has been developed and improved in a number of ways and the number of accessories has been expanded.

The Ankarsrum Original has been voted best in tests in various and numerous occasions and that spurs us on the become even better. Proof that we have succeeded can be seen in the positive reception that we have received from mass media, retailers and consumers for our latest colourful model.

Today, 75 years since the first machine was launched, we can look back on nothing else than a success story. We set out to be among the best and that we have accomplished. And we strive to become even better, to make an even better machine that can be passed on from generation to generation.
